Actress Louise Fletcher Dies September 23, 2022

Actress Louise Fletcher died at her home in Montdurausse, France, on September 23, 2022, at the age of 88. Her death was announced by her agent David Shaul. She died in her sleep surround by family in a 300 year-old house that she re-modeled.

Louise Fletcher is best known for her portrayal of Nurse Ratched alongside Jack Nicholson, who portrayed her patient and rival in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975). For her work in the film, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress, a BAFTA Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Jack Nicholson also won Best Actor in the film.

On March 29, 1976, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest won the “Big Five” Academy Awards at the 48th Oscar ceremony, including Best Actor for Jack Nicholson, Best Actress for Louise Fletcher, Best Direction for Forman, Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman. Saul Zaentz and Michael Douglas produced the film.

Louise Fletcher was also well-known for her recurring role as the Bajoran religious leader Kai Winn Adami in the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993–99). She also starred in Cruel Intentions (1999) as Helen Rosemond.

She was nominated for two Emmy Awards for her roles in the television series Picket Fences (1996) and Joan of Arcadia (2004). In her final role she played Rosie in the Netflix series Girlboss (2017).
