Amanda Bynes, age 32, was reportedly struggling after returning to the spotlight.
According to multiple media sources, Amanda Bynes checked into rehab in January 2019 after a downturn that began in late 2018. According to People magazine, Bynes is “getting help and treatment from mental health professionals and addiction counselors for drug addiction and mental health issues.”
Amanda Bynes told Paper Magazine in November 2018 she started using drugs when she was 16 when she smoked marijuana for the first time. Bynes continued using marijuana regularly and “Later on it progressed to doing molly and ecstasy,” she said. “[I tried] cocaine three times but I never got high from cocaine. I never liked it. It was never my drug of choice.”
According to Paper Magazine, Bynes said she took Adderall regularly.
Recreational doses of Adderall — a central nervous system stimulant — are generally taken much larger than prescribed therapeutic doses, and carry a far greater risk of serious adverse effects. A risk factors for misusing ADHD stimulants recreationally includes developing deviant personality characteristics (i.e., exhibiting delinquent or deviant behavior).
Bynes was arrested for DUI in West Hollywood in April 2012 and was charged connected to two hit-and-run crashes in April and August 2012.
In May 2013 Amanda was arrested at her New York apartment and charged with reckless endangerment, felony tampering with evidence and criminal possession of marijuana after she allegedly threw a bong out of her apartment unit on the 36th floor when NYPD arrived to investigate after the doorman reported reported she was smoking marijuana in the lobby, acting erratically and talking to herself.
