Singer, Songwriter Dr. John, of New Orleans, Dies June 6, 2019

Dr. John, New Orleans’ legendary six-time Grammy Award winning pianist, performer and 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has died, his family said. He was 77. Eric Paulsen of CBS New Orleans affiliate WWL-TV reports on Dr. John’s life and legacy.

A great view of New Orleans history – both musical and disaster-related as Dr. John stopped by to chat with one of the godfathers of the city’s music scene, Allen Toussaint, and Cosimo Matassa, owner of the legendary New Orleans recording studio where Dr. John started playing as a teenager.

Dr. John died of a heart attack on June 6, 2019 at the break of day, according to his family.

The music icon performed a song then chatted about his prolific career, his beloved home city of New Orleans, and positive outlook on life (KING 5).
